Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace, Bengaluru

3.1
Once the summer residence of Mysorean ruler Tipu Sultan, Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace stands as a shining example of Indo-Islamic architecture built entirely of teak. As you wander the complex, keep an eye out for floral motifs embellished on the walls, a painting of the grand throne as imagined by Tipu Sultan, and the eastern and western balconies from which Tipu Sultan would conduct court. On the ground floor, browse the small museum depicting Tipu Sultan's achievements, featuring an exhibition of his clothes and crown displayed on silver and gold pedestals. Art lovers may also be interested in works by James Hunter, who sketched various landscapes of South India, displayed in the palace. • This elegant spacious building has sadly deteriorated. Some of the columns are in need of fresh paint. However it is a lovely building, cool with spacious halls and well worth visiting. The surrounding...  more »
  • Honestly, we expected it to be much bigger place to explore. To see it all and take all the pictures you probably need 10 minutes. Nice area though.  more »

  • From Eagle Eye's - It is very small place (do not expect much before visiting). It showcases the great wood work and you can enjoy your summer in the place where Tipu Sultan spent his time :) In the ground floor, there are rooms displaying the paintings. Don't miss them. They are superb portrayal or even like photos from those period. There is a well maintained small garden. Good restrooms are available. Entry fee is so cheap!!
  • It has a beautiful architecture and worth visiting place. We can learn the history of Tipu Sultan, about his kingdom and how he ruled and it will inspire us. It has a well maintained park. This place is said to be that Tipu Sultan used to visit it in Summer. The building looks single storied from outside but in inside its a two storied building. Some of the olden wall paintings traces can be seen. There are some rooms where history of Tipu Sultan is displayed photography is not allowed there. Two wheeler and four wheeler parking is available straight opposite to Tipu Sultan's Summer Palace. Bangalore Fort is very near to this palace(around 500mts only) and can be visited by walk from here because parking is difficult near Bangalore Fort and there is no entry fees in Bangalore Fort.
  • Nice and clean place. It's in heart of the city. It's a small place. Max to max 1 hour is sufficient to visit. Problem is you have to park your vehicle somewhere else in nearby buildings. Wooden structure is worth seeing.
  • You can imagine the way a king lived, when you walk through this palace. This is truly beauty and architectural marvel. The amazing size and design shouts it. You have a lot to see here. There only sad thing is they won't allow you to take photos inside. The night view is amazing. If you ever visit there, make sure you stay till night and see the night view with all those lamps lit. There one of the best !!
  • Nice quaint place in the heart of a market. Most things linked to Tipu Sultan are enigmatic. It is nice to learn that Rocket science existed during his times! You can literally see 2 live rockets (missiles) on display here. The complex also houses a 500 year old Lord Vishnu temple, the doors of which open & close according to the whims of the care takers.
